a bird from last spring

I think there is something both satisfying and sad about finishing this first year of our graduate programs. We've both finished final projects, and classes (Danielle will not have anymore classes at all, spending the next year writing her thesis), and now we have about a month to get ourselves together before we head over to Berlin to work on a documentary (we'll tell you more as it gets closer).

I'm going to spend some more time working on video, Danielle will finally have some time to get back to painting. I'm hoping we have a chance to shoot something together over the summer, for ourselves.

Many exciting things on the horizon, though for now, some time to rest.

MONU Border Urbanism, Windsor: The American Sector by Justin A. Langlois

A month nearly escaped us again.

It's been a hectic thirty-one days, but things are going very well. Danielle's presentation in Ottawa was a great success, though her trip home was slightly disturbing... Danielle is now busy with finishing final papers, which include a literature review of forty sources.

My presentation here at home went well, and I have since had many exciting ideas. I think having the occasion to do the research helped get my mind around ways to accomplish things I have long been hoping to do. I also recently received a copy of MONU, in which I am published. My article, entitled "Windsor: The American Sector" finds itself spread over six pages, with a photograph contributed by Lee Rodney. You can order your own copy, or subscribe to the magazine, on MONU's website.

There is finally documentation of the works that have been exhibited earlier this year. There are now videos, along with some notes, of With Love, RSS and Collapse/Relapse. I'll get the video screened at Media City 14, "Losing My First Tooth," up soon as well. In the meantime, I'm trying to work my way through some new projects, while somehow becoming lost in the world of net.art ...

School is winding down, there is rain forecast for tomorrow, and the summer holds many exciting adventures. This semester has gone by incredibly fast.

»oh, a break

February 23, 2008, 7:53 pm

birds in the sky, first saturday of reading week

We're officially on reading week, and so officially we should be taking a break, but it doesn't look like it will really happen that way. Things to catch up on and more and more things being added all the time, to be caught up on later.

However, we spent the majority of the day outside, in the sun and wondering if these could be the first days of the thaw. The photo above was taken today in the (relative) warmth.

Things coming up...

Wednesday, March 5th - I'll be giving a talk in LeBel room 115, School of Visual Arts, 12noon... I'll be discussing artists who are continually using existing conditions within cities, whether these be social, economic, or environmental as source material for projects.

Thursday, March 6th - Media City 14 Regional Program... my video, Losing My First Tooth will be screened at the Capitol Theatre around 6:00pm. The colourful abstracted image at the top of our site is taken from this video.

Friday, March 14th - Danielle will be presenting her paper, "Buying Consciousness: How Media Commodified Hurricane Katrina and 9/11," at the Memory as a Medium conference in Ottawa.

In between other things, we hope to finally get some of Danielle's video art up as well as documentation of my last two works, Collapse/Relapse and With Love, RSS. Tomorrow is supposed to be above freezing!

»so this is the new year

January 29, 2008, 10:56 am

As you may have noticed, we've become restless with the design of our little website, so if you stumble across some errors, please let us know!

Danielle received word last night that she was accepted to present at the Memory as a Medium conference in Ottawa coming up in March.

We gave an artist talk yesterday for a Communications class at the University of Windsor, which was quite interesting. We spent Sunday going through a bunch of our older work and realized how much we've amassed... we also realized how incomplete our archives are.

I have a couple exhibitions coming up...

Boiling Point will run as part of the Labour Arts Festival from February 8-23, with the opening reception on Friday, February 8, and I'll be working with a couple of other artists in the MFA program at Windsor on a week-long exhibition in the LeBel gallery, February 4-8... we'll be doing a collaborative installation/sculpture, images to come as soon as it happens.

We'll upload more work soon... Danielle has been doing an incredible amount of drawings and I'll get some documentation up from With Love, RSS.

It's ridiculously warm today.
