The summer is in full swing and we've finally had a few moments to get working on new things. Danielle is out of town for the next week or so, but we spent an incredibly perfect summer evening shooting a short to-be promo for our little site here. Once she returns from her trip to New York, we'll finish the edit and get it online.
Danielle's paintings have been stretching their wings, her latest taking place in a butcher-shop / delicatessen. Commissions are coming in for her work, and it is a promise to get some photos of her collection up extremely soon.
I've been reading as much as I can, recently completing Video Art by Rush, New Media Art by Tribe + Jana and working my way through Installation Art by Bishop. Lots of ideas are collecting and soon I'll take some steps to making some new pieces.
Both Danielle and I submitted abstracts to the "Student-I" conference at the University of Ottawa; Danielle wrote about the surveillant gaze and its effects on women, while I wrote about using art to subvert surveillance technologies. Here's hoping we get it, we haven't visited Ottawa together yet, and I haven't been in over a year.
We're beginning to think about more music videos, though time will tell how many we can complete. I travelled to New Brunswick a couple weeks ago to shoot a weekend worth of shows, autograph signing and time in the van with Sound of Pop artist, Brandon Jones. Eastern Canada is beautiful.
We're also playing in a badminton tournament next weekend. We're both terrible, but we hope some co-ordinated costuming will at least make us look intimidating.
