At last, something to see and hear under the freshworks section.

Danielle has been painting constantly and beautifully, while I slowly work to complete a new album and gather my thoughts on video art. We'll show you more soon.

Danielle continued her adjustments to her furniture into the evening. We also bought some new dinner plates today.

»buttons, honey

July 9, 2007, 4:40 pm

8485 has buttons!

We have buttons, thanks to Busy Beaver's "So & So" button design competition. Our little upside down goose won honourable mention or something like that, so we get 200 buttons and if you're in the East Coast or Mid-West in the US, you can find our button in a Button-O-Matic machine.

If you happen to catch one of these in the wild, please be gentle.
If you want an 8485 upside down goose button, let us know.

»the third month of summer

July 4, 2007, 10:41 pm

hummingbird

The summer is in full swing and we've finally had a few moments to get working on new things. Danielle is out of town for the next week or so, but we spent an incredibly perfect summer evening shooting a short to-be promo for our little site here. Once she returns from her trip to New York, we'll finish the edit and get it online.

Danielle's paintings have been stretching their wings, her latest taking place in a butcher-shop / delicatessen. Commissions are coming in for her work, and it is a promise to get some photos of her collection up extremely soon.

I've been reading as much as I can, recently completing Video Art by Rush, New Media Art by Tribe + Jana and working my way through Installation Art by Bishop. Lots of ideas are collecting and soon I'll take some steps to making some new pieces.

Both Danielle and I submitted abstracts to the "Student-I" conference at the University of Ottawa; Danielle wrote about the surveillant gaze and its effects on women, while I wrote about using art to subvert surveillance technologies. Here's hoping we get it, we haven't visited Ottawa together yet, and I haven't been in over a year.

We're beginning to think about more music videos, though time will tell how many we can complete. I travelled to New Brunswick a couple weeks ago to shoot a weekend worth of shows, autograph signing and time in the van with Sound of Pop artist, Brandon Jones. Eastern Canada is beautiful.

We're also playing in a badminton tournament next weekend. We're both terrible, but we hope some co-ordinated costuming will at least make us look intimidating.

»the second month of summer

flowers in the summer

While Danielle and I are hard at work (Danielle is working for CHYR 96.7fm and I'm working for Green Corridor), we are still making time to create.

Actively painting again, Danielle is also dreaming up some new video ideas and contemplating the subordinating role of surveillance on women. I'm trying to understand the meaning of community and ways in which I can affect these communities, all the while fiddling with max and jitter, and reading about design and sound.

The slow process of documenting our work is underway and the plan is to have the portfolio section of this site complete within the next few weeks. Much to look forward to.

»some new additions

April 9, 2007, 12:35 am

While we're still working through the remainder of the semester, and therefore have had no time to put a whole lot of content on this site, rest assured that we're busy. We have been writing fairly regularly and now we have a fancy little commenting system, so feel free to go ahead and talk about something we wrote.

Also, this Thursday, April 12th, Justin's short film, "Elizabeth & Illinois" (starring Danielle Sabelli) will be playing at Milk Coffee Bar in Windsor, for a fundraiser for another local film maker.

In other exciting, and extremely official news...

Danielle will be attending the University of Windsor for her MA in Communications & Social Justice.

Justin will be attending the University of Windsor for his MFA in Integrated Media / Visual Arts.

This is the last week of the semester, wish us luck on exams.
