Collapse/Relapse is a data-driven installation that uses custom software to distort and modulate video, using data culled from the Internet, creating a visual metaphor for the effects of the slowing economy on the community. The source data is an estimate of the amount of online discussion surrounding job loss, unions, and the auto industry. The source video is an extended commercial for Chrysler's Town and Country minivan.
The video processing is a visualization of the engagement of affected workers and their families and communities in the online discussion of economic and social realities surrounding the manufacturing industry.
The work was exhibited at Artcite as part of the 2008 Windsor Labour Arts Festival in February 2008.
Collapse/Relapse was discussed in an interview with the Windsor Star and Kingsville Reporter.
Collapse/Relapse was constructed with Max/MSP/Jitter.
