Yesterday was the most magical 1/2 hour of my life, and the extended 2 hours of Justins.
We were privleged to see the living legend Mr. Vito Acconci speak at the Art Gallery of Windsor. Unfortunately the system got me. As a slave to time, My pal Lindsey and I were late only to find ourselves in a parking lot across the street. Since carrying coinage is passe we were only able to gather three quarters sticky with questionable purse entrails. Needless to say 3 quarters buys a half hour, Oh how the commodification of time is progressions greatest omniscent feat.
It was the most enlightening half hour i've attended in a long time. Not only were Justin and I both dazzled by his uncanny knack for making art that challenges the conception of public vs. private space, but he spoke through a wonderful voice that was both Italian, New york and gently husky. Vito's confidence made all his work seem so matter of fact, which is part of his unforgetable mystique. My favourite piece that he spoke about included the gallery floor transformed into a ramp, and if that didn't already get me it was a ramp that would actually hold people. My awe continued to penetrate me as he went further to say that he was under this ramped floor masturbating to phantom fantasies created out of the footsteps he heard above. Stilettos, Loafers, sneakers and keds I think the keds might have made the sexiest sounds.
Justin's favourite piece was one that is currently under construction in France. It involves refurbishing a small town of 400 people. He has created scattered apartment buildings with roofs fertile for farming.
I suggest everyone take a look at Mr. Acconci's work, absolutely brilliant!!!
..... I should really stop bitting my nails, those ones that slip past the carefully crafted spitting technique and go down my throat has made my throat a butcher shop random pieces of meat just hanging......
