»before I forget, making the body the interface

April 9, 2007, 9:11 pm

I had an idea, I can't remember if I already wrote about it, but it's an idea that seems on the verge of being forgotten, so to prevent this loss of idea, I should write it.

The body will become the interface for a computer. Utilizing sensors attached to the muscles, my body movements will become keystrokes for the computer to interpret. It will be an interface at the most physical and visceral of levels.

I think that was it. Basically, flex, bend, etc sensors would be attached to my body, which would then be hard-wired to an old keyboard to interface with a computer. There would be wires everywhere.

For my final assignment in Digital Media, due tomorrow, a live camera will read the average colour values of the input, which will then alter the colours of a fluctuating drawing responding to sound. Why? To have a visual record of the unannounced, unnoticed collbaoration of you and those around you. To use this raw data to create art seems so important in creating environmentally responsive artworks, the environment being both the physical space and the community in which we live.

Living Walls - yes.

Sigi Torinus - I have so much to learn.
