»non melting, melting chandelier

April 10, 2007, 12:00 am

The Semester is nearing closure and the magical urgency is in the air that only final projects can ever bring about. Today was my final sculpture critique and it is safe to say that my stupidity led my sculpture to outsmart it's creator.
I made a large 4 ft, 3 tier chandelier (complete with lacy patterns)out of hot glue beads. I used over 1000 hot glue sticks and over 50 hours of blurred vision, seared nose hairs and self loathment that only working on something meticulously for 6 straight ours can bring about. I also purposely chose to do it all with the mini glue gun as opposed to a larger more efficient hot glue gun as part of the process. This was the whole point of my piece, to suffer while trying to make somethin beautiful only for it to be destroyed and obsolete.
Now it did turn out aesthetically how I desired, but because so much attenton was put forth into achieving this desired aesthetic i neglected the logistics and common sense it takes to actually have the chandelier melt. (I didn't really realize how shallow I am ;) ) Insted my light bulb became fused to the hot glue underneath it (which was the emergence of my stupidity) thus trapping the few glue droppings as well as the heat that was required to make the whole chandelier melt.

I did not even achieve one drip, my neglectful nature actually made a barrier that in actuality kept the chandelier safe from certain propsed shameful death. What Deep down i might have been secretly satisfied with because of my 50 hour bond with the chandelier and how pretty it may be. I applaud my stupidity ... (secretly) and the survival instinct of the chandelier

Justin says,

It's better it didn't melt, now we have some furnishings for our place next year.

You are the radio host my heart.
