It's around 2am. I've been playing with max/msp/jitter for a couple of hours. I had created what Danielle dubbed "a video making machine", which was in fact, just a few filters that could be triggered by audio input. Tonight, deciding to move into controlling the video through MIDI input, which seems like a necessary and natural progression, I've successfully created a video controller that plays the video back at the rate I dial-in with the modulation and pitch wheels. There are are actual notes on the keyboard, C3, C4, C5 that all do something as well.
The program looks fairly messy right now, but I think there's something to find in there. The video is running in the background, and all of the little float and int boxes are floating around in space, it's sort of nice, I feel like you can see holes in the exterior of the machine, momentarily allowing a glimpse at its guts, etc.
Tomorrow will be filled with After Effects fun. And hopefully making some music, if time and emotion permit.
Also, in the middle of switching hosting companies, so TLA site is down for the count. Not sure what to do with it. I spent the better part of Friday downloading everything I had on the old server and it was quite incredible, the amount of videos and old songs I just had hiding on there. I also need to do a redesign, which might not happen for a while, but one can only hope. The majority of the coming week finds me as cinematographer for Amanda Lo's production, "Memory's Paradigm". I've utilized a lot of handheld so far with a borrowed DVX, and I think it looks quite nice, though I'm not sure I'm looking forward to being tied down to a tripod and dolly for a good portion of the shots at the Wellington, here in Windsor.
Artist Urban Plans was inspiring, what I saw of it anyways, unfortunately I missed David Rokeby, but as Danielle mentioned, we did see Vito Acconci and I was also able to catch Oliver Kellhammer and Adrian Blackwell, all very inspiring takes on the public space and how to define such a thing. Lots to discuss later.
