»when I'm avoiding writing anything at all

July 23, 2007, 9:49 pm

a lonely campus

It feels like a Monday night, in that I've let the hours slip away after having promised myself I would attempt to write something close to a first sentence of an abstract proposal for a conference. I'm not sure if it's the fact that the deadline is still a week away, or that I'm still unpackaging exactly what they're asking for a submission on.

While the days seem to float along a lot faster than I'd like, it is maybe that time of the year, the restless summer, the feelings of knowing there should be action, but never bothering to take any. I've spent more time recently on music; I find it a tough balance of interests somedays, while others I'm happier than a tree in the rain.

I'm trying to remember what inspiring thoughts I've had lately, yet I can't escape this tingling kind of pain in my shoulders. So, rather than sitting down and trying to work something out on paper, I'll continue to avoid the abstract and allow myself to not think about anything very important.

In brighter news, I've found some images of quiet inspiration and I wonder if this aesthetic will ever find its way into one of our videos... I'm excited for the time I think we'll never have. I've also found myself a new pair of shoes...

Justin's new shoes!

I'm reading Popper's From Technological to Virtual Art, and I'm enjoying it. Not quite as much as some of my other reading earlier this summer, but I think it's because this book is focusing more on virtual art, that is, virtual reality, and I've never really been interested in this concept. There are some artists I've made note of, in hopes of having time at another date to investigate their works and better understand how their thoughts might fit into my practice. However, I'm beginning the chapter on Interactivity and I'm excited to read. Reading is such a wondrous ability... and there were moments when I dreaded sitting down to read a book, moments like high school English class, etc. Reading for interest is night and day.

I think I'll make a list of interesting things I'm coming across on this Internet... at least it will act as a foundation for my scatter thoughts later.
